INTERESTED IN TRYING OUT FOLKLÓRICO?
If you are interested in joining Grupo Folklorico Miztontli, contact us through e-mail, the Contact Us form on our website, or join us for practice!
You are welcomed to join us for practice and come to our events for a month (free of commitment) to see if Miztontli is right for you. However, please keep in mind that only members who have paid their membership fees and who have submitted their membership forms will be allowed to perform.
BENEFITS OF JOINING
The vast majority of our members join because they see folklórico as a way of learning about and showcasing the Mexican culture to others and as a gateway from daily routines and school. As a Miztontli members, you can expect to:
Additionally, every member that joins is eligible to hold office. Some positions, like President and Treasurer, and specifically for University Students; however, everyone is eligible to run for Artistic Director, Vice President, Secretary, Historian, and Multimedia Director, Wardrobe Director.
No previous experience (with folklórico or other styles of dance) required! We will teach you the basics.
Miztontli is a recognized University of Arizona student organization that primarily serves university students; however, we welcome non-UA students and community members to join us as well!
Because we are a Student Organization (Club) and not a dance company, we cannot accept students younger than 16. Also, students under the age of 18 will need parental permission before being allowed to join. Community members must be 18 years of age or older.
Members do not need to purchase their own folklórico costumes to join the group. We will lend you the costumes and/or accessories during performances. HOWEVER, members are required to purchase the following items:
We have some of these items in stock and you can borrow them while you purchase your own (and we have connections and information on where you can get these items).
$30 per semester (Fall and Spring) OR
$50 per academic year (if paid in the Fall)
FALL: September 7th
SPRING: February 2nd
OR after a month of attending practice, BUT before your first performance.

If you would like to have us perform at your event, please fill out the Performance Request Form under "Contact Us" and have the following information ready:
We request that you provide us with as much notice as possible, with two (2) weeks at a minimum. Any performance requests made with less than a two weeks between the request and the performance date will be considered, but may be declined if we are unable to make adequate preparations or if not enough members are available to perform.
IMPORTANT! Miztontli is a STUDENT AND COMMUNITY GROUP, not a professional dance company. As such, our members have a very busy schedule that includes classes, jobs, and family. We will do our best to accommodate performance requests, but we hope you will understand if we have to turn down a request due to conflict with our schedules. If you e-mail us with a request and we do not respond within a week, please give us a call.
NOTE: Miztontli is usually not available for performance mid-May to mid-August as our members are on summer break.

VENUE AND EQUIPMENT
A minimum space of 12' x 16' is requested (although exceptions can be made). Additionally, we ask that you provide the sound system and let us know what this will be so we can prepare (USB, CD, Bluetooth, etc.). In the event that there is no sound system available, we can provide our own but may charge an additional $15 fee.
All of our performances are donation-based, although there is a recommended $50 donation per couple for every 15-45 minute performance. As a student organization, donations are tax deductible and a tax letter can be provided upon request.
